The term 'legend' should not be used without due consideration.
Gordon Banks, however, is deeply-entrenched within the terminology. A World Cup winner, holder of debatably the greatest ever save and six time consecutive FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year means that there can be no doubting Banks' iconic history and impact on the game.
He has inspired a generation of players, coaches and fans alike. That moment of pure brilliance during the 1970 World Cup, which happened to fall during the rise of colour television to create goalkeeping's first truly 'viral' save, has rippled throughout the careers of those who came much after him, the catalyst of their dreams and ambitions in the game.
Gordon Banks will not be forgotten in the footballing community, forever an icon and always a motivation for those who craft their own path from his inspiration.
In the words of Pele, he was 'a goalkeeper with magic'.
Rest in peace.
